Developed in the early twentieth century, reflexology was originally known as “zone therapy.” This type of massage focuses only on ones and hands feet. During a reflexology session, the massage therapist will focus on specific target points that will send signals to the brain and will balance the nervous system. This is done by moving and stretching the hands and feet while applying pressure to reflex areas and other parts of the body. These pressure areas correspond to specific organs of the body. The endorphins released during a reflexology session will reduce the amount of stress the client feels while returning the body back to its equilibrium. Reflexology provides pain relief to those who are suffering tension headaches, arthritis, digestive issues, and back pain.
