Florida Sun is Dangerous, How to Protect your Skin from Damage

Living in Florida, we get plenty of sun which means plenty of Vitamin D! Vitamin D is naturally produced when the sunlight reaches your skin and it’s essential to stay healthy. In order for your organs and cells to function properly your body requires around 600 IU daily. This is easily obtained through 15-25 minutes of sunlight exposure, but sun exposure should be monitored and sunscreen is a MUST! If you’ve been getting your sun time in, you’re helping your body prevent many diseases including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, MS, osteoporosis and psoriasis!

With all these benefits it’s also important to consider the other outdoor factors that can affect your body, particularly your skin. Everyday environmental factors such as sunlight, smog, pollution and stress can leave you feeling listless despite having your daily dose of Vitamin D. All of these factors can also age your skin, which is why we developed our Environmental Shield®Vitamin C Facial. Our scientifically proven spa facial has been designed to reverse the signs of aging that result from these factors. Rich in antioxidants including Vitamin C, our facial spa treatment features patented Murad® infusion technology, which delivers pure Vitamin C directly to the skin to maximize wrinkle fighting, collagen production and free radical protection. Pigmentation will fade, fine lines and wrinkles will be smooth, and you will enjoy clearer skin.

Prevention is the best medicine, and even if your skin is not showing the signs of sun damage there is never a better time than now to start a preventative skincare regimen. Stop in today or visit http://www.massageenvy.com/facials.aspx to learn more about what you can to to protect your skin while living the the sunshine state!

Three Clear Skin Foods You Should be Eating in 2013

When you feel healthy on the inside your skin reflects it on the outside! It can also be said that what you put into your body can affect how you look on the outside, so it’s very important to feed your body well! All the acne medicine in the world may not solve blemish problems unless you’re working on your diet as well.

We often focus on what we shouldn’t be eating to prevent blemishes… but it’s what we’re not eating that could be the key to clear skin. If you’re lacking essentials like zinc, carotenoids, and fiber you could be depriving your body of what it needs to keep your skin clear!

Try these foods high in zinc: pumpkin seeds, almonds, chickpeas, oysters, beef and baked beans. Zinc reduces inflammation, shrinking bumps while it slows sebum production. This combo reduces oily shine and prevents clogged pores. While vitamins and supplements are a good option to get in your daily zinc requirements, nothing beats nutrition from its natural source. Toss back a handful of almonds or pumpkin seeds daily to see gradual improvements in your skin.

Carotenoids which turn into vitamin A in your body, attack blemishes in three ways; they reduce inflammation, encourage cell turnover and strengthen your skins immunities to bacteria. Munch on mangos, cantaloupe, carrots, spinach and sweet potatoes to soak up the benefits of carotenoids and see improvements. The key is to stick with fresh varieties of these foods to boost the benefits they give your skin.

Finally, add fiber! Switch out white for wheat, and cut processed, unhealthy carbs. Refined carbohydrates trigger he body to respond by producing more insulin which, in turn triggers hormone changes in your body which increase oil production and cell multiplication. This combo, in short can lead to clogged pores and unsightly blemishes. By consuming fewer processed grains and more unrefined carbs your body takes more time to digest and absorb the calories keeping blood sugar steady preventing a whole slew of skin problems. Stick to brown rice and whole grain bread products; it also doesn’t hurt to add a fiber supplement to your daily routine.

To jump start your routine to clear skin, consider a Murad facial with us, and with these simple changes in your diet you could glow for 2013! For more information, visit http://www.massageenvy.com.

The Benefits of Fresh Juice vs Store Bought

Fresh juice has been a hot topic recently, and for many good reasons!

The argument for freshly squeezed juice is simple; Fresh juice contains more nutrients and no added sugars or preservatives. Those added sugars are adding inches to your waistline, and giving you loads of empty calories. Store bought juices also contain fewer nutrients than fresh juices, so you’re not getting the goodness your body needs. Fresh juice contains loads of living enzymes which assist with digestion and absorption of all the goodies packed into a freshly squeezed glass of juice. Fresh juices contain no artificial flavors or colors which can compromise nutrient value.

To start reaping the benefits of fresh juice,  invest in a juicer and purchase fresh fruits and veggies! You should try to juice as many vegetables as you do fruits, trying different combinations to figure out what you like best. Feel free to experiment with vegetables you normally eat, broccoli and cucumber juices are great!

The road to good health includes a healthy diet, exercise, and good stress management. To boost your health and relaxation, consider getting a massage. Happy Juicing!

Meditation: A Simple Way to Manage Stress

Most people are or have been plagued by stress in their lives. Anything from work to family issues can cause stress on a person. If stress has you feeling anxious, tense and worried then you should consider trying meditation. This is a simple and fast way to help you feel more relaxed, even spending a few minutes a day in meditation can restore your calmness.

Anyone can practice meditation. It requires no special equipment and you can do it virtually anywhere you feel comfortable.

Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years. It was originally meant to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. Nowadays, meditation is typically just used for relaxation and stress reduction. It is considered a mind-body complementary medicine, producing a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. Meditation will allow you to clear away the information overload that’s built up in your mind everyday contributing to your stress. You can practice everyday by focusing on steady breathing or central thoughts.

Research suggests that there are some physical health benefits as well. Meditation may help such conditions as high blood pressure, depression, anxiety disorders, asthma and even allergies! Meditation is not a replacement for traditional medical treatment, but may be a useful addition to your other treatments.

There are many types of meditation and relaxation techniques to choose from. Here are a few detailed ways to meditate:

Guided meditation. Sometimes called guided imagery or visualization, with this method of meditation you form mental images of places or situations you find relaxing. You try to use as many senses as possible, such as smells, sights, sounds and textures. You may be led through this process by a guide or teacher.

Mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation is based on being mindful, or having an increased awareness and acceptance of living in the present moment. You broaden your conscious awareness. You focus on what you experience during meditation, such as the flow of your breath. You can observe your thoughts and emotions but let them pass without judgment.

Transcendental meditation. You use a mantra, such as a word, sound or phrase repeatedly silently, to narrow your conscious awareness and eliminate all thoughts from your mind. You focus exclusively on your mantra to achieve a state of perfect stillness and consciousness.

Yoga. You perform a series of postures and controlled breathing exercises to promote a more flexible body and a calm mind. As you move through poses that require balance and concentration, you’re encouraged to focus less on your busy day and more on the moment.

Try out any of these techniques that you feel works best for you and what you enjoy doing. You can adapt your meditation to meet your needs at the moment. Remember there is no right or wrong way to enjoy all of the wonderful mind and body health benefits of meditation!
